His research-based art practice serves as a test lab for generating critical ideas that interrogate and provoke visual culture, genealogies of design methodologies, and the cross-cultural implications related to technical artifacts. His work has been exhibited at Gallery 151, New York, Ny; Fisk Gallery, Portland, Or; SOIL Gallery, Seattle, Wa.; Ditch Projects, Springfield, Or.; and has been curated in internet-based exhibitions with Fluidity.Online, ECLIPSECORE, and The Wrong Biennale. He has given lectures or workshops at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, Southern Oregon University, and Whittier College, among others. In addition, he has collaborated with many interdisciplinary design studios, working on design projects ranging from feature film and television title sequences, music videos, and other culturally relevant commissions. His graphic design work has been recognized by: The National Academy of Television Arts &amp; Sciences, Communication Arts, Art of the Title, and SXSW. Björk was the 2020–2021 Designer-In-Residence at the Center for Art Research at the University of Oregon. Between 2016 and 2019 he was a curating member at Ditch Projects, helping to organize and host experimental and permissive exhibitions that promoted underserved artists in the Pacific Northwest. Nuclear-colored wallpapers illuminate the homepage, housing five films created for this exhibition. The project considers the shifting logic of speed during the pandemic–complicating the signs of speed, reconciling the past’s future, and scrutinizing the materiality of movement—both as an animated form and cultural phenomenon. (NUMMI) was home to an uncanny collaboration between General Motors and Toyota Motor Corporation for over 26 years. The NUMMI plant produced identical cars for international markets, resulting in a global language of automobiles. In Platform Bazaar, flattened artifacts from the factory were synthesized, translated, and reassembled into a digital workstation highlighting the metamorphosis of the labor force and the subjectification of the digital user. The End Stage is a documentary film directed by South Korean director Seungjae Oh. It is a pointed look at the COVID-19 pandemic and capitalism. Oh brings together an international cohort of thinkers to contemplate the connection between COVID-19, capitalism, and climate change. These thinkers include Pulitzer Prize journalist and author Laurie Garrett, American academic and animal behaviorist Temple Grandin, and NASA’s climatologist Gavin Schmidt. Philosopher Slavoj Zizek sets the stage by claiming that first-world societies are riding comfortably on a train while the effects of global warming torment the rest of the world. However, if we do not pull the emergency brake, our train will collide head-on to an oncoming train. Walter Benjamin: "Marx says that revolutions are the locomotive of world history. But perhaps it is quite otherwise. Perhaps revolutions are an attempt by the passengers on this train—namely, the human race—to activate the emergency brake."1&nbsp; I collaborated with Oh on several parts of the film, namely the cinematics inside the film that depict hallucinations of climate change generated by AI that invade a safe train cabin, the livery of The Train of Capitalism, the substantial head-on train collision Björk The following text by the&nbsp;Center for Art Research: POWER comes from the Latin word “potere”, meaning “to be able to”, and is often associated with words such as control, influence, ability, potential, force, impact, energy, and might, among others. Power is often thought of as that which is possessed, transferred, acted upon, exchanged, imposed, and has affect. In its most basic form, power can be described as an exchange of energy that has the potential to yield physical, theoretical, or social impact. It has the ability to do something in a particular way, especially as a faculty, quality, or physical manifestation. Power is omnipresent, existing within, outside, and between forces, objects, people, institutions, and social and cultural systems. Power can be tangible or intangible, enduring or temporary, and have no impact on a body or such that shapes its existence completely. As an expansive way to investigate notions of power, the University of Oregon Center for Art Research (CFAR) commissioned artists and cultural producers with a range of lived experiences to respond to the question “What is power?” as it relates to their work and thinking. Contributors were encouraged to make this endeavor something that in some way serves them, or to approach the occasion of developing their piece as a way to process or explore things they may not otherwise. While the project is called Papers on Power, CFAR encouraged contributors to use any format they deem appropriate, from the typical academic paper or photo essay to experimental forms that may have little or no precedent. The initial project prompt posed a 1200 word maximum, which was chosen as more of a starting point than a constraint and that which is not quite long enough to completely resolve most thoughts but affords the opportunity to be speculative or propositional to introduce thinking specific to an individual’s practice(s) while modeling, probing, and/or elucidating the nature of their relationship to the subject of power. CFAR followed the work, adjusting timelines and lending support as needed to let things mature organically within the complexity of the lives that produced them. Papers on Power is a compilation of casts to the ether, sent from home sites all over the US during a time that was fraught and unclear, and so difficult to find purchase in. These pieces were published through CFAR’s website as they were completed in 2020 and 2021, and now bound here to seed thinking and catalyze exchange related to power.
